With a family farming upbringing, and a strong background in agribusiness, Shona bring a wealth of knowledge to the NZ Landcare Trust in her role as Canterbury Catchments Coordinator and South Island team leader.

From growing up on a dairy farm on New Zealand’s West Coast – with her family still farming across three properties (meaning she still milks the odd cow when she is visiting!) to completing her Masters in Geography at the University of Canterbury, Shona has created a career from working around the land. As a former Federated Farmers policy advisor where worked with the Bee Industry Group and the South Island High Country Farmers, as well as looking after the Rural Fire, game animal, and animal pest portfolios, Shona also worked as part of the team to create regional planting guides and launched the Trees for Bees campaign in 2009.

Shona has also worked with Synlait as a farm certification specialist, for Beef + Lamb NZ as a research and development project manager and also worked in response roles, including with AsureQuality as a cleaning and disinfection coordinator for the Mycoplasma bovis programme, as well as working in every farmer-led earthquake response in Canterbury since the 2010 Darfield earthquake, including the 2011 Christchurch where she led a team of farmers and volunteers (The Farmy Army if you will) earthquake response which won an award in 2012 from the Christchurch City Council.

And it all comes back to Shona loving and having a strength in working with, and being an advocate for, farmers.
