New Board Chair - Fiona Gower

New Board Chair - Fiona Gower

10 December 2018

Fiona Gower is a woman who wears many hats – mum, wife, farmer, scout leader, Rural Women New Zealand National President and NZ Landcare Trust board chair ... just to name a few.

Fiona has been a trustee on the NZ Landcare Trust Board since 2016 when she came along as the environment representative for Rural Women New Zealand. She was voted in as board chair in December 2018 following the retirement of long time board chair, Richard Thompson of the Ecologic Foundation.

Fiona says she enjoys her new role with the Trust.

“I really enjoy working with NZLT. The Trust is making a big difference in making itself the conduit between the community and farmers, and local bodies and government organisations and it’s a really important role. Programmes and plans are being put into place and being worked on, because of the role the Trust plays, and those actions are making a significant impact on environmental issues in our country.”

“Going forward, that is really important for New Zealand, and as trustees, it is really is essential that we support the work being done.”

As a passionate member of Rural Women New Zealand for 13 years, Fiona has been on the national council (now named the board) since 2013, and was elected National President in 2016.

Outside of her work with NZLT and RWNZ, Fiona is an active member of the Port Waikato BeachCare group as well as a new Scout leader too.

And in her spare time – when she actually has any – it is all about family for Fiona.

“Quality family time is a priority for me, especially as I am away a lot, so doing things like fishing or whitebaiting together; looking after our new lambs; or just spending time as a family, is my favourite thing to do, it’s really precious.”
