Connecting the Waitoa - Community Planting Day

Piako Catchment Forum invites you to be part of the 'Connecting the Waitoa'.

Join us at our community planting day on June 12 as we restore a local covenanted
kahikatea forest remnant. All welcome!

QEII National Trust are providing morning tea at 11am and a sausage sizzle and hot drinks at the cowshed following planting. Thank you QEII Trust!

Please bring clean spade and gumboots.

For this year’s planting, we are trialling pre-drilling the holes, to make the planting a bit easier. Bringing a spade will still be useful as the holes may not be perfect, and a spade will assist in adding the dirt into the hole around the trees.

We are also going with long lasting fertiliser pills this year to see if that helps plant growth. There’s a lot of competition from the established canopy on this site so anything that speeds up root growth on our babies should help.

After the planting, we will be mulching the plants with wood shavings from the calf shed. Help may be needed with this, so if you have a spare bucket please bring it along.
