'Pauatahanui - Waikanae Rural Catchments Project'

This project harnesses the skills, energy and desire of the community to improve their local environment - a move towards sustainable management of the Pauatahanui Inlet and the Upper Waikanae River catchments.

An independent Catchment Co-ordinator works with the community to support the implementation of a community developed catchment vegetation framework. This involves new fencing, removal of weeds and an extensive replanting programme.

These measures are designed to improve water quality and stabilise erosion prone slopes.
