News Item.

American based parcel giant UPS has awarded NZ Landcare Trust US$20,000 from its Environmental Sustainability fund. UPS Auckland Branch Manager Megan Lynch presented the cheque to NZ Landcare Trust CEO Dr. Nick Edgar at the UPS office in Auckland on 3rd December.

The funds will be used on the 'Kaimai Catchments Project', a new catchment management project based in the Bay of Plenty Region. NIWA scientist have calculated that current sediment inputs into the Tauranga Harbour are around 130,000 tonnes per yearThe Firth of Thames receives an estimated 150,000 tonnes of sediment per year from the Waihou River alone,  threatening the integrity of an internationally recognised (Ramsar) wetland. Our work will help encourage farmers and landowners to take action, making positive changes that will benefit both their properties and the wider catchment.

The Environmental Sustainability Grant is part of a range of community funding initiatives offered by 'The UPS Foundation', a charitable arm of UPS.

"... it's objective is to support organisations and programs that lead to lasting change - in thought leadership, in deeds, and in results."
