26-07-10: Māori language edition of 'Fish Fact Sheet'.
Māori language week begins today and runs until 01 August. The theme this year is 'Te Mahi Kai' - The Language of Food, and events are taking place around the country in celebration.
This week presents an ideal opportunity to draw attention to a series of six 'Fish Fact Sheets' that NZ Landcare Trust is producing as part of our Hooked on Native Fish Project.
The first fact sheet entitled 'Our Freshwater Fish' is now available to the general public and includes a version translated into Te Reo Māori. The fact sheet provides an introduction to the 50 or so species of native freshwater fish that inhabit NZ waterways and provides useful tips on how we can help ensure they survive. Both English and Te Reo Māori versions of the first fact sheet are available for download from the project page>
The full series is currently in the final stage of production and will be available shortly.
Further information about learning Te Reo Māori is available for the ‘Kōrero Māori’ website:
