Ag Art Wear - Landcare Awareness

About the Award.

NZ Landcare Trust continues its support for the Ag Art Wear Awards, which has grown to become a major attraction at the National Fieldays, Mystery Creek, near Hamilton.

In 2010 the Trust will sponsor the brand new 'Landcare Awareness' section, which challenges designers to create a garment made from flora and fauna found within New Zealand. The category now includes native, non-native and farmed species, providing designers with the opportunity to explore a huge range of materials while drawing attention to environmental and farm management issues.

Garments should have a strong background story, supporting their design and construction. Concepts might relate to the following themes:–

  • New Zealand is fortunate to have a wealth of unique native flora and fauna, but invasive non-native species can pose a serious threat to native biodiversity.
  • Our agricultural landscape contains a variety of introduced plants and animals that coexist with native species when managed within a suitable farm plan.

Judging.

Judges are looking for innovative, well constructed garments with a strong supporting concept. Garments should be ‘artistic’ therefore creativity is important in both design and construction. Judges will consider these specific areas:-

  • Appropriate use of materials
  • Concept
  • Visual impact
  • Uniqueness of design
  • Construction quality
