The Lower South Island’s Regional Coordinator for the NZ Landcare Trust is Janet Gregory. Based near Gore, Janet works with the Southland Biodiversity Forum and supports the many Landcare Groups in the region.

The Southland Rural Support Trust has been set up with support from MAF with the principal aim of supporting rural communities. Help is available for both human and animal welfare issues, during and after adverse events. Janet is secretary and coordinator for this group and has helped with initial establishment and coordination of drought response activities.
Clover Root Weevil has arrived in Southland with populations discovered at some key sites in the area.
Working with Environment Southland, NZ Landcare Trust contracted AgResearch to conduct a study to determine suitable sites for the release of a biological control agent(Microctonus aethiopoides).
