The Sherry River Catchment Group will host a 'Spring Event' on Wednesday 5th October, to be attended by the Member of Parliament for Tasman Chris Auchinvole. The event aims to highlight a 'farmer friendly' weed control technique that involves planting into a grass sward which suppresses weed growth - making a major contribution to increasing the success of riparian planting.
The event starts at 9.00am with a practical field based session at the Sherry Bridge trial site, led by Scion's Nick Ledgard. NZ Landcare Trust Regional Coordinator Barbara Stuart will welcome everyone to lunch at noon, and will be followed by Trevor James from Tasman District Council who will make a significant announcement about improvements to water quality in the area. To wrap up lunch, Chris Auchinvole MP will deliver a message to attendees.
After lunch Nick Ledgard will lead a trip to another farmer friendly trial site on Bill and Jeanette Booth's property, where native revegetation has been very successful thanks to excellent weed suppression.
