Additional Biodiversity Funding.

NZ Landcare Trust has successfully applied for additional DOC Biodiversity funding to support its work in Northland and Southland.

DOC have awarded a grant of $150,000 spread over a period of three years to assist NZ Landcare Trust with a program to enhance biodiversity values on private land in Northland. The program will provide support to existing projects and support new projects, especially those that target the protection and enhancement of threatened species and ecosystems on private land.

Conservation Minister Tim Groser said, "Encouraging private landowners to get involved in conservation work is one of the Government’s priorities..."

The Trust has been awarded a further $150,000 over three years to continue its partnership with Biodiversity Southland on a project to provide advice and support to landowners and community groups who are actively seeking to enhance and protect biodiversity in the Southland region.

NZ Landcare Trust's Northland Regional Coordinator Helen Moodie commented, "These funds represent a vote of confidence - support for our community based approach, targeting active management of rare and threatened native species."
