Artist and dairy farmer Kathy Reilly is donating the proceeds of a card produced from one of her 'tea cup series' art works to help resource the ongoing work of Golden Bay Streamcare. As a farmer who has benefited from the support of the Golden Bay Streamcare group (who planted 1000 plants on their land) Kathy says she wants to contribute something in return.
Golden Bay Dairy Farmers and the Streamcare group who operates under the auspices of Forest and Bird is a working example of two potentially opposed groups who have chosen working together as the best way to improve water quality in Golden Bay. The Streamcare group supply locally grown eco-sourced plants and assist willing farmers by organising free labour to plant and do follow-up weeding... all for $1 per plant. Farmers are expected to have fencing in place before planting can begin and to help. The outcome for the environment is filtered run-off from farms, stablised stream banks and ecological corridors for birds and fish.
Anyone wanting to purchase cards can do so through the Monza the Art Gallery in Golden Bay or by contacting Jo-Ann Vaughan 03 525 6031 or email javn@xtra.co.nz.
