‘Landcare: A Practical Guide’ has been designed for farmers and landowners. As the name suggests, the emphasis is on practical, useful information that can make a big difference to the long term sustainability of a farm. A large section is devoted to a series of case studies where farmers and landowners share their motivations, challenges and successes.
NZ Landcare Trust Communication Manager James Barnett says:
“The Guide has been created with farmers in mind. This publication is about inspiring people, showing them how sustainability and profitable farming can go hand in hand. To do this, we’ve included eight great examples of landcare in action from all over the country.”
The Guide also contains straight forward information covering 10 key areas that farmers and landowners can focus on when seeking sustainability improvements. Larger commercial operations are also considered and the potential of Sustainable Land Management planning is explored. Finally a book on landcare would not be complete without a section outlining the process involved in setting up a landcare group.
NZ Landcare Trust would like to thank Transpower for their sponsorship of this publication.
Transpower is the owner and operator of New Zealand’s high voltage transmission network and has been a major partner of NZ Landcare Trust since 2000.
Transpower Chief Executive Patrick Strange said: “we’re proud to support NZ Landcare Trust and the practical guide. The guide will help farmers, landowners and rural communities manage their land sustainably to ensure economic, social and environmental benefits into the future.”
